Windsurfing: Hayling Island Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: 20-30 knots Surf / Sea State: All sorts Air Temperature: 10 Sea Temperature: Far too cold. Weather: All sorts Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Proper April shower type weather. Clear blue skies one moment, then
horizontal hail the next.
Arrived when tide was still high and dumping, and no one was out on the
water. Car park was full with people waiting for the water to recede. Wind
was up and down so couldn't decide what to rig. Waited for the first guinea
pigs to go out; one was on a 5.4 and well powered up.
Decided on the 5.2 in the end and it was too big. Was too overpowered to be
able to try any proper jumps or gybes. Came in after about an hour to
change to the 4.5. Whilst de-rigging a random French (?!) guy who had been
out rushed up to me and asked if he could borrow my boom to help save one
of his friends. Gave it to him not being sure if I'd ever see it again, but
carried on rigging anyway. Then the meatiest of the hail storms passed
over, so sat in the car waiting for it to clear, and then the guy came back
with my boom so all was well.
By the time I got out again the tide had dropped right off leaving flat
water on the inside of the sand bar. Blasted around for a bit in the easier
conditions. The wave board wasn't ideal for the flat water so came in again
and changed onto the Bee. When I went out again though the wind was
dropping. Had a couple of runs then came in.
Not a great session due to the wierd weather and poor initial kit
selection, but not bad. Was good when the sun was shining.
